South Coast Beach Clean 2022

Updated: Jan 4, 2023

A chilly start, but the sun soon appeared to shine brilliantly on the first ever CMPP beach clean up. Almost 150 corporate volunteers from 13 different local companies joined the CMPP team last week on the sands at Littlehampton as part of the national beach clean up.

Rachel Austen, who managed the event for CMPP, was thrilled by the success of the day: ‘It’s been amazing! This is a new environmental action day in the calendar and you can never be sure in advance how well it’s going to go. But to work with such hard-working, dedicated volunteers, clearing away rubbish and so much plastic, has been inspirational.’

One such enthusiastic participant (who preferred to be nameless) spoke warmly about her experience: ‘What a day! I really feel I’ve made a difference today. My company is pretty forward thinking and they allow us this time away from the desk to do something valuable in the community.

And we certainly have: as a result, the beach is in better shape and I’ve met some lovely people. It was so well-organised by CMPP - from the coach to the fish and chips on West Green before we came home. Can’t wait for next year’s event!’
