Not just any clean beach: this is a CMP cleaned beach!

An unseasonal grey start could not prevent the sun shining brightly on the intrepid volunteers taking part in our annual Beach Clean at Hayling Island.

Over 130 volunteers caught coaches leaving from Farnborough and Woking or made their own ways to the south coast, the fourth such event organised by CMP. Many of our Members were represented, including new partners Perfect Balance and Valiant participating in their first large scale corporate volunteering event with CMP. Take a bow:

By the end of the day, a remarkable 36 10kg bags of rubbish had been taken from the beach; included in the haul of rubbish were a sleeping bag, fishing rods, a walking stick, Barbie's left leg (and rather sadly both her sparkly shoes!), a witch's finger (happy Hallowe'en!), a shark's tooth (stay out of the water!)and a crocodile...
In addition, three 100m stretches of beach had been designated for special attention; in close liaison with the Marine Conservation Society, eagle-eyed volunteers sought out the many harmful micro-plastics which do such damage to the ecology of marine life.
Refreshed by those wonderful, CMP partners Asahi, the tired volunteers ended their day in the only way possible at the seaside - with delicious, well-deserved fish 'n' chips!
Rachel Austen, who organises and manages the Beach Clean on for CMP, was understandably delighted at the day: 'What a great day! So many people involved, really making a difference. It's been a privilege being part of the day.
It really is amazing to see so many passionate people from all these companies coming together to give back, to protect wildlife and to show their care for the environment. This kind of community spirit is so encouraging: collaboration, action, a shared commitment to something bigger than ourselves.'
Louise Handley, founder of Perfect Balance, had this to say about her experience and the impact it had on her team: 'This was our first volunteering event and we didn't know what to expect.
But the entire day was well run and had a warm, community feel to it. We felt a great sense of achievement for the difference we have all made - and we got to spend some time outside of the office as a team.

We can't wait to get involved in more CMP volunteering projects throughout the year!'
And we look forward to welcoming you, Louise, and your team together with the staff from all our Members at the many opportunities CMP arranges for you to make a difference in the months ahead.
