'And the Oscar goes to...'

Updated: 5 days ago

It's a wet, grey November night but at Farnborough International, all was glitz and glamour - yes, the annual CMP Movie Quiz was in town!

The red carpet welcomed well over a hundred intrepid quizzers for a night which would test the depths of film knowledge which (spoiler alert!) in the case of the team from the Village Hotel, proved to be woefully - but proudly - shallow.

Designer ballgowns were in short supply but participants lit up the night skies with a dazzling explosion of colourful costumes. Joining Audrey and Marilyn, our hosts for the evening, were Woody, the Mad Hatter, the entire cast of Top Gun and of course Mr and Mrs Potato Head.

In all fifteen teams battled it out to win the coveted Oscar awarded to the winners on the night. In fierce competition were participants from:

Farnborough International Happiful Herrington Carmichael HR Dept

Leapfrog Marketing Morr & Co Porter Garland The Bartheau Crew

Valiant Village Hotel

CMP are indebted to our wonderful hosts, Farnborough International, who once again provided the venue (and the popcorn) for a wonderful occasion in support of the Charity. Many thanks also to our friends and sponsors, Cre8tive Space, without whom the Quiz could not have taken place.

Thanks to Josh and Luke, our resident DJs; refreshments in the form of a delicious curry came courtesy of Levy. CMP are also grateful for the many generous donations of raffle prizes from so many donors: thank you.

And, whilst this is beginning to read like an interminable acceptance speech by a Hollywood starlet, thanks must also go to leading man Lewis Mason, a more than adequate late notice stand in for the incapacitated matinee idol, Paul Marcus. Lewis led the ensemble through a taxing five rounds of fiendish questions plus a highly fought bout of Heads & Tails wrestling.

On a night when all were winners, the Award for Best Fancy Dress went to the Mad Hatter and inevitably, the prestigious Best Dressed Team Award went to the animated cast of Toy Story who quite rightly collapsed to the floor when it was announced that Andy was coming!

At the end of an evening of starry selfies, fun and much laughter, leading from the front was a powerhouse team from those clever people at....drum roll please... Porter Garland, who carried off the Oscar for 2025.

Take a well-deserved bow one and all!
